Sketchbook Saturday Challenge #86

Hmmm… first off, did you notice that I’m NOT late with the sketch, for a change? This post was neatly scheduled a day earlier, call it a moment of triumph in the midst of sheer madness :)

I wanted to give many thanks to everyone who took the time to leave such lovely, meaningful comments under yesterday’s post. The number of visitors to my blog dropped significantly in the recent months and I was wondering whether any more changes of direction are going to affect these numbers further. Of course I can’t know that, but it’s beautiful and reassuring to know that there are people like you, on whose support I can count :) You’re a blessing.

Today’s sketch was inspired by Joy‘s gorgeous work. Everything she does takes my breath away, but I kept coming back to this particular card, which hooked me up on Lovely Layers set from PTI. I still don’t own it (their international postage is a killer; if it wasn’t for it, there would be plenty more PTI on my blog). But hey, I can work around inconveniences like these if needed 😉
Oh, here’s one more card of the same style… did I tell you that Joy rocks?? Yeah.

To get started, I pulled out the papers from My Mind’s Eye, the magnificent All Is Bright Christmas pad. While it’s possibly the most gorgeous bunch of designs for the Holidays and whatnot, I shamefully didn’t cut into any of it until now. Not into the tiniest bit. Me, who was always positively mad about patterned papers. Duh.

I had this unexpected crisis a few weeks back, where I seem to have forgotten how to use these purty things. Seriously. When these things happen, you know it’s gotten serious and it’s time for action. Hence yesterday’s post, again.
But I digress.

For the stamping bit, I used the Vintage Garden Seed Packet set from Waltzingmouse. Love the vintage label-stylized sentiments and I see them popping up in an ever increasing number of stamp designs. Which makes my heart sing… I’ll be possibly looking into getting some more of this sort, in the new year :)

A wee strip of glittered cardstock (Core’dinations) and a label sticker from Basic Grey’s Plumeria, are other supplies I’ve got in here. The flower (also from the forementioned Waltzingmouse set) was paper pieced with scraps of CS and patterned paper. I used grey ink to stamp it with, black looked too obtrusive.

I almost forgot that there is also a challenge inspiration behind this number - the truly lovely Tuesday Trigger: Sweet Dreams. I was sold at aqua :)

This is my last sketch for this year, next one will fall on my birthday, the 5th of January… I’ll be away on a vacation still on that day, but fret not, I’ll have a wee something scheduled for you :)
In the meantime, I hope you’ll enjoy this one!

A few things to keep in mind if you decide to use my sketch:

- You’re kindly asked to save the image onto your computer first, and if you make a card based on it, please link back to this post.
- If you upload your card to an online gallery, use the code SSC86.
- Feel free to share the link to your creation via the Inlinkz widget, so that I can come and check it out!
- The colours/elements mean nothing towards the card. All styles, colours and supplies, as well as slight alterations of the sketch are welcome.
- A new sketch and sample is posted every other Saturday (occasionally Sunday/Monday, if I’m running late), but you’re welcome to play any time! Just leave a link in the comments section after Inlinkz widget closes.

The season of giving (and reflection)

Tomorrow my girl is going to family daycare for the last time, before the Christmas break. She’s got the most wonderful carer, the kind of a person who does so much more than she’s asked for, because for her it’s a work of heart, not a chore. I appreciate her so very much and always try to remember to let her know that, by giving her a little gift.
I baked her one of my favourite cakes today, a simple but SO yummy banana cake. It’s impossible to fail on this one, and I swear it smells like fresh bananas.

Banana cake

125g (4.4 oz) sugar
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 egg
2 ripe bananas
1 1/2 cups self-raising flour
1/4 cup milk

Melt butter, sugar and vanilla in a saucepan, remove from heat. Add mashed bananas and egg. Stir in flour and milk. Pour the mixture into a loaf tin, bake in 170C (338F) for 40 minutes.

*Please note, that all measuring is given in Australian standards.
1 cup = 250ml
1 tsp = 5ml
1 tbsp = 20ml
Make sure you adjust your measures, if you use British or American standards. Thanks!

……………………………………………………

It’s one of these quick and great last-minute gifts, handy when there’s not much time to spare. From baking to cooling and wrapping, it took me about two and a half hours.

For the wrapping, I used some tissue paper, thin kraft cardstock (cut from a Bazzill 12×12″ sheet), a length of burlap, baker’s twine and a ready-made Cosmo Cricket tag, on which I stamped the sentiment from a PTI set (Big & Bold Wishes).

Now, I’ve got a question for you, my dear readers. Again it’s the time that I’ve been re-evaluating the importance of my blog, trying to focus on things that suit me and make me most happy. My life is changing; not only I’m pregnant with our second girl (due on the 30th of April), my days are fuller now with my parents around and I guess my priorities shifted somewhat as well. I think I’m nesting… *wink*

You probably noticed how I’ve been dropping one commitment after another, TCM being the last Team I said farewell to a week or two ago. I’m leaving only a couple of lightweight responsibilities, on top of my dear CASE Study. Being in the centre of things was fun and satisfying, but I can’t go on like this. More importantly, I want to try and focus more on stuff I neglected in the past due to lack of time, craft-wise as well. Do more purely for my enjoyment, and for the ones I care about.

I also feel the need of making my blog more personal and slow-paced. More tasteful and less hurried. Give more of myself, not just of my card-making side, because there’s so much to my life than this.
So, the question is, would you be willing to take on this slightly new journey with me? Where apart from the staple of my blog - cards, there would be more of other paper-crafting related posts, loose thoughts, photography, baking, etc.? More of myself?

Frankly, I’m not sure yet how exactly things will turn out, but I know that if I don’t give this creative outlet some new definition, I’ll burn out and it would be no fun at all.
Who’s with me? :)

Mama Elephant Color Challenge

I’ve been trying for two days to post this card, and I’m still grumpy doing so now, since I can’t for the life of me take a good photo if it. Once in a while I make one that resists a good photography, do you have those as well? Anyway, good or bad, here it is…

The card is for the Mama Elephant first challenge:

Not only I love these colours, but I shamefully admit that I didn’t get to use my lovely Believe In Magic stamp set as much as I wish I did this year. Even now that my cards are sent and I don’t have any formal need for another one (um, but the will is still there alright!), I felt such urge to pull them out that I had to come up with a non-Holiday purpose. Light bulbs, anyone? :)
I turned the snow globes upside down and glittered the insides to give them a sparkle. That’s one of the things I failed to capture, unfortunately. They glimmer really beautifully, I guess you have to believe my word…
I only inked up a part of the sentiment, to suit my needs.

I really hope that I’ll chime in again before Christmas Eve. CASE Study doesn’t launch later today, we’re having a two-weeker so it’s good for six more days. Same for the Waltzingmouse sketch. However, I should be good to go with my Sketchbook and a JG’s Nook post :)
Until then! xxx

Jay Gee’s Nook - Warm Wishes

Please check out my late post for Waltzingmouse Sketch below as well!
For now, let me share yet another Christmas card, I just can’t get enough :) This one’s for Jay Gee’s Nook Sunday DT post, enjoy!

The beautiful snowflakes from WPlus9 Folk Art Flurries set, were both stamped in white and gold embossed, on a piece of PTI Hawaiian Shores card. I combined different shapes together, for a fuller look. The sentiment comes from Winter Wishes, also WPlus9.

The finishing touches are scoring on both sides of the card, as well as vertical machine sewn lines that the snowflakes “hang” from like Christmas ornaments. Fun, right?
I chose to work with this great sketch, cts#9:

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge 128

Sorry for the late post, folks! I’ve been wrapped up in the last couple of days, I’m sure you all know why and can relate! I’m beyond excited that Christmas is coming so soon, but it does come with a price..
Here’s a new Waltzingmouse Sketch:

My card, on which I used Holiday Labels 14 and the sentiment from Compliments of the Season.

I embossed the base with the beautiful Spellbinders Whimsy M-Bossabilities. The label/sentiment, were embossed with Liquid Platinum EP (Ranger).
My inspiration comes from Tuesday Trigger: Shimmer & Shine.

I also saw my bloggie friend Moe’s gorgeous entry in that challenge, from which I took some inspiration too. I had a lone little jingle bell in my stash, salvaged from a gift, which I used. I must look into where to buy these cuties the next Holiday season!
Visit the Waltzingmouse Sketch blog, to see more from the Mischief Makers and link up your entry. See you later,

CASE Study Challenge #121

Hi there! It’s time for a CASE Study post and a new portion of inspiration from Windy Robinson!!
This week I thought it would be appropriate to bring forth a Christmas card. Isn’t it splendid??

I stayed partly true to the layout, with the heavy damask on the bottom and the bling. I used Poinsettia Patterns from WPlus9, Kaisercraft trim and NestaBling.

Please visit the the Design Team’s blogs, for more inspiration!
This challenge will run for two weeks, so that you all have enough time to join in, despite the Holiday madness. I should hope so! :)
