CASE Study Challenge #193

As always, Thursday brings a new challenge to CASE Study and today we sadly have the last one with Wida… I kinda don’t want to let that girl go, you know?? Some Muses are just too good, plus I do love her personally as well! In short, I had a blast. Thanks, friend!

So, we’re ending with an oomph… one of my staples from Wida’s blog and a card she created for Penny Black. Of course I wanted to pull out PB as well but I couldn’t find a sentiment that fits the rest so I resorted to Simon Says Stamps‘ own.

I started by stamping the Penny Black Allover Pattern in Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink. I’m channeling Wida’s gold stamping above. Then I combined a few flowers from the Petal Power clear set, stamping them in Brilliance Pearlescent Coral, and separated the panel in about two-thirds. The sentiment from SSS Hello You set, was stamped in Pearlescent Orchid and Onyx Black on PTI Fine Linen CS and the card base is Spring Rain (also PTI).

The yellow fill in some of the background pieces, comes from Twinkling H2O‘s in Sunflower, which I applied with an aqua brush.

Gallery Idol Round #2

Hello! A special post from me today, I’m sharing the card I made for Round #2 of Gallery Idol 2014! I had minimal time to prepare the card; I’ve been handling a teething toddler, battling tiredness (I just started working part time) and the resulting back pain, so I can’t say my mind was clear enough to produce something I would be proud of but I do at least hope it will be good for some of you to cast a vote 🙂

The theme given in this round was die cutting, and here’s my card:

I created a pseudo-diorama effect, using WPlus9 full card dies: Birds & Branches Frame and Foliage Frame. I gradated the neutral colours using PTI Kraft, Fine Linen and Rustic Cream cardstock. The base is PTI Spring Rain which I turned into a twilight sky by sponging on several shades of Versa Color ink.
The pair of birds from Birds & Branches Frame was die cut in navy cardstock, and the flowers cut from white CS and glittered lightly in the centers. I finished the card by adding a Cosmo Cricket sentiment sticker to the bottom of the card.

Here’s how I created the scene:
1. I cut my pieces.
2. I sponged the sky on the card base and adhered the darkest layer of foliage.
3. I removed the leaves from about one third down of the inside of the die.
4. I adhered the frame flat on top of the first layer, and then the cream frame over the rest, this time using dimensional tape.
5. Added the birds, flowers and sentiment.

I hope you like it! It’s not necessarily a unique or innovative approach to die cutting, but it’s still quite a lovely card and I stayed true to my style which I think is a plus 🙂
If you do find it worth a vote, I’d be thankful if you made your way to the Gallery Idol 2014 contest page, you’ll find there a link to voting which you can do after a quick registration. Moreover, I’m sure there’s plenty of eye candy to be seen from the other contestants, I can’t wait to see them myself!

Papertrey Ink May 2014 Blog Hop

Hello, I’m sorry for the absence! I have just started working part time, the job is physical and exhausting, and I find myself having have to adapt quite a bit… I worked 9,5 hours yesterday and had to get up at 4 am to be there at 5.30… ouch! I’m so NOT an early bird! Same today - actually as I’m publishing this post now, it’s 4.30 am and I’ll be out of the house in a short while.
Oh, and there’s THIS too… have you seen?? Came sorta unexpectedly as I certainly wasn’t counting on it. I’ve been trying to come up with something clever for the next round but I’ve been so tired that I just produced whatever I could and hoping for the best 🙂 (did I mention that my 1 yo Julka is having a terrible teething affair right now? oh my god, that’s one aspect of parenthood that I don’t like)
You’ll see the card… very soon. And I hope that even though I think I could have done better, you will still cast a vote if you think it’s worth it 🙂

Anyway! I had a card luckily prepared ahead (shocking! I never do that) for the Papertrey Ink May Blog Hop. I saw the theme in the teaser post and I was instantly inspired. It’s aqua and melon and as cheesy as it is, because this combo has indeed dominated the world of design, it happens to be one of my strong colour crushes. I just had to play.

So here’s what I did. I pulled out a sheet of my beloved Aqua Mist cardstock and stamped on it the circle elements from Delightful Doilies stamp set, in Aqua Mist ink. I made a panel from Melon Berry cardstock, spruced it up with additional strips of CS and stamped the sentiment from Boutique Borders: Birthday in Berry Sorbet ink. I secured the strips together with a staple.
Then I stamped the feathers from Feather Finery in Melon Berry and Ocean Tides ink, fussy cut them (I don’t have the dies), and affixed to the card. I curled up their edges and added a natural twine bow.

It’s hard to see on the photo, but I also stamped a tiny dot from Dot Spot, with white ink inside every circle element in the background. It helps break down the monotony and adds a subtle interest.
A few enamel dots from My Mind’s Eye finish the card.

I have a card or two up my sleeve so I should be back soon enough… plus, of course, I will have a Gallery Idol card to blog about too. Cheers!

CASE Study Challenge #192

Hello! It’s CASE Study time and a new challenge is up, inspired by the awesome Wida. Figures this wonder woman can awaken the rustiest of mojos because GASP! I scrapbooked. For the first time in months. I usually don’t feel much need for it, I adore the idea but apart from the lack of natural talent in scrapbooking, I struggle making my pages personal, “mine”. Or perhaps my time hasn’t arrived yet, hmmm.
But! Today’s work I’m happy with. Yay!

It’s the freestyle arrangement of the elements, stacked vertically on the card, that made me think of a big time layout rather than a card. I also carried the vellum elements through, rather extensively as you can see…
I cut Simon Says Stamp Full Card Hexagons in vellum, cut the frame off and placed the grid behind the photo. Then I gathered the hexagon pieces and fitted them around the grid, letting them spill in both directions too, as if they were bursting out of the frames.

The phrase comes from the MAMBI (Me & My Big Ideas) pocket page; I found it so fitting, especially lately as I’ve been dealing with surprisingly extensive tiredness and low mood. Those two are a handful for sure but it takes one look at their faces and no trouble matters any more.
I cut the page by hand and stacked the strips in a random manner, drawing a line under each strip with a felt pen. The few embellishments that I used are Studio Calico Tiny Stars (which I’m sure you noticed by now that I’m a bit obsessed with), and Teresa Collins and Kaisercraft flag banners (ready-made die cuts). I also added splatters with Tattered Angels spray mist.

FB told me last night, just as I was finishing this piece, that there’s a Scrapbooking Rocks Challenge on at the Moxie Fab World blog as of current, so I thought it was an amusing coincidence. Needless to say, I’ll be linking up there 🙂

Sketchbook Saturday Challenge #122

Sorry for the late sketch this week! I hope I didn’t mess up a schedule for anyone who was waiting in vain for it to appear on Saturday… I’ve been feeling uninspired lately, probably due to tiredness as for one reason or another I’ve been up until the small hours plenty in the recent weeks. Here’s to hoping that this timeless classic of a sketch will make up for the extra wait! I can’t believe we haven’t yet ‘done’ this one…

The sketch is simple but it lends itself to a world of possibilities, and the path I chose was certainly a scenic route. I chose Penny Black‘s Poppy Time stamp and the sentiment from Technique Tuesday‘s Bring On the Sunshine set.

I coloured the whole scene with Inktense pencils (which I’m yet to get for myself, these were borrowed 🙂 ) and an aqua brush. I did a lot of layering of the colours and blending on the petals especially.
I flicked some grayish ink over the panel, and finished the card by adding a strip of patterned paper. I don’t remember exactly where this one came from, but I suspect it may be one of Crate Paper‘s collections.

***************************************************************************

If you would like to play along:

- You’re kindly asked to save the sketch image onto your computer first, and if you make a card based on it, please link back to this post.

Washi card for Gallery Idol

Hi peeps, just popping in with a quick post and letting you know that I haven’t forgotten about the Sketchbook! It’s coming, only delayed just a bit.
I’ve been thinking about the washi tape theme of this year’s Gallery Idol and I thought I’d enter. It’s nothing awfully creative and I’m entering just for the fun of it. I don’t stand any chance against the talent out there anyway 🙂

I used several rolls of washi and some PTI dies to create a scene - the ground, bike wheels and clouds are covered with it.

I used PTI cardstock to cut the bike frame and flowers in, and I stamped the filler images from the corresponding stamp set (Pedal Pusher) to stamp on them.

You can see all the fantastic submissions to 2014 Gallery Idol here. Thanks for the peek!
