You know what the theme for this event is (if you don’t, check it out HERE first) so let’s get down to business!
I usually look for the inspiration for my new project, on Pinterest. My boards hold plenty of files I’m saving for tackling later (don’t we all??)
Since I’ve been dealing with a creative stupor, and making some decisions regarding my future blogging (see my previous post), I’ve been finding it hard to commit to a single project I want to make. That is, until I hit my mixed media folder and recalled how much I enjoy looking at she-art. Well, some of it at least 🙂

Mixed media pieces by Paulette from Adventures in Fiber are among my favourites (see them on Pinterest). I’ve been looking at them countless times, thinking how lovely it would be to be able to create this kind of art as well. And so I finally gave it a go 🙂

Disclaimer #1 I’m aware of the fact that there is more than one common denominator between Paulette’s artwork and my inspired piece - I took the elements from hers that I fancied but I made the piece mine, I hope it shows!
Disclaimer #2 I have ZERO practical knowledge of mixed media, she-art and art journaling. I used what I used because either a) it felt right or b) this is what I have on hand 🙂

My girl sleeps under the patterned paper blanket (old Basic Grey What’s Up collection). I drew her first with a pencil, then coloured with Copics. The background was watercoloured with Inktense pencils and stamped with the background from Stampers Anonymous Papillon set, using Iced Spruce Distress Ink. The flowers and butterfly are K & Company ephemera. A more detailed step-by-step is a bit further below. Here are the Copic markers I used:
skin: E41/50/13/93/04, YR000/00, R01
hair: E07/17

The journaling along the edge of her hairline says “let her sleep for when she wakes she will move mountains”. I find it quite powerful.

Here’s how I made it! Please note that I’ve been working on this piece in-and-out all day and hence the less than ideal evening light towards the end of the slideshow. You can see the true colours on the photos above.

That’s it from me for now, you now should hop to Torico’s blog! Thanks for visiting, enjoy and good luck in the drawing!

Design infused #6

Hello! I’ve been quiet on the blogging front in the past couple of weeks and I decided that’s how it’s going to stay for the time being. While I’m be no means abandoning my passion for paper crafting, blogging is what needs to be put on a backburner. See, it’s just so much work I can’t justify doing so often any more. I think at least half of my blog visitors have blogs themselves so you know what I mean. Perhaps it’s easier, quicker for some people but for me making a card + putting it up on the blog is half a day’s worth.
So I’m going to downsize to an extent I’m comfortable with. I’m still aiming at posting several times a month but nothing like what you got used to in the last years. My family, my own choices and my comfort should always come first. I found myself trying to deliver for every reader of mine, any request put before me, etc. While I value your keen interest and it’s humbling to know that you want more from me, it’s easy to forget that this blog is for my own enjoyment, for ME. And I should be there for my kiddos and my husband first, and not at the desk typing away every day.
Thanks for understanding!

That being said, I hinted on Instagram a few days ago that I’m reviving a neglected feature on my blog with a new installment, and it’s Design Infused!
The reason I left it unloved for so long was that I foolishly thought I’d spin it off as a video feature. Nope. NADA. Me and videos just don’t go together, sorry folks. Not now. It’s SO much work that it makes my head spin just thinking about it… I honestly don’t know how the others do it, sharing a new video every other day and then still claiming to have a life, but maybe I’m just especially challenged by this particular medium.

So if you will forgive me for reverting back to the old scheme of things, here’s today’s inspiration and my spin on it.

What is Design Infused series about?
I take a design piece that inspires me (be it stationery, clothing, packaging, etc.), and translate it into a custom paper-craft design, using predominantly stamps and ink. I take great joy in letting what I see around, influence my designs, and I want to show you how easy it is.
I collect the inspiration in my Pinterest board especially created for this purpose, and pick a piece from the lot for each installment of this feature.

Here’s a better view of the inspiration, a watercolour poster from Wildfield Paper Co. (see it HERE). I’ve seen cards with floral design arranged around the central sentiment many times before, and don’t ask me why I waited this long to recreate one myself… Once I saw that poster I knew this is the one to kick start my mojo.

I reached for one of my very favourites of this year, a Summer Garden stamp set by Mama Elephant / Simon Says Stamp. I needed a line art design that I could filled with watercolour, one that is freehand, whimsical and charming. I was also looking for a stamp that would remind me of the purple leaves in the poster which I’m especially fond of, plus of course a great script font, and that one set ticked all the boxes.

I started by choosing the perfect spot for the sentiment, and so I stamped it first. Then I chose a semi-light brown of Frayed Burlap Distress Ink to arrange the flowers and leaves around the card.
When working on creating a larger scene with smaller stamps, start from the largest designs (placing them at strategic places) and then add the fillers.

I watercoloured the scene with Derwent Inktense pencils and an aquabrush (water pen). I know I said it before, they’re pretty incredible. They may not give you the smoothness of paint but their blending abilities are superb, they’re so easy to use and they come in fantastic colours.

I added white accents to the leaves and flowers, with Copic Opaque White Brush Applicator. This stuff is gold! Although it’s best to stick to straight-ish lines when using the applicator - you can see a messy job in places where I was trying to create dots or dabs rather than strokes 😛

I hope it tickles 🙂

WPlus9 August Release: florals

I’m back with more WPlus9 projects today! I’m loving the new release and I having lots of fun with it despite the creative stupor that still haunts me and a lack of time. I pulled out the Flora & Fauna 2 stamp set today which I was itching to colour and believe me, it was hard to resist watercolouring! Thank you so much, Dawn. HA! Next time. For this card I used my trusty Copics.

I created ambient shading around the flowers using a light blue marker and added a few ink splats. This gorgeous sentiment is a part of the Valentine Wishes set.
Here are the Copics I used:
orange flowers: YR31, YR12, YR09, E07, W5, W7
purple flowers: BV20, BV23, BV25, BV29
sky: B0000, B00

I made one more card, this time focusing on the Fresh Cut Containers stamp set with matching Designer Dies. I die cut the watering can from white cardstock and left it un-stamped, but I did stamp the flowers on the die cut pieces and arranged into a bunch. Then I popped it all into a card with the background stamped in grey ink with various designs from Papel Picado and a purple lace ‘fringe’ from Chantilly Trim. I finished the card by stamping the sentiment from Hand Lettered Thanks.

Thanks for stopping by! xx

Sending Love card

WPlus9 August Release: Pears

I’ve been wrapped up lately, hence the silence on the blog. My parents who came to stay with us for almost half a year, flew back to Poland on Sunday and I found myself juggling between kids, work and chores since. Getting back on track is a bit painful… but hopefully temporary 🙂
I found a teeny bit of time to craft tonight and decided to quickly pop this card on the blog. I used another great pair of stamps and dies from the WPlus9 August release: Punny Produce: Pears & Clear cut Stackers: Pear Designer Dies.

I die cut the pear from the patterned paper (Cosmo Cricket Simple Surfaces), and sponged ink in a few places. Just swiped some old Versa Color cubes directly on the edges, to be honest. I needed quick and convenient 🙂
I popped the pear up on a SU! Lucky Limeade cardstock, which I previously sponged with white ink as well, and stamped the sentiment underneath. A drop or two of Glossy Accents embellished the little die cut heart I added to the pear.

I will have more of the Pears for you, plenty of ideas in my head - alas, not tonight 🙂 I’m sorry for brevity, I hope to ‘see’ you soon!

Beach Girl digi stamp showcase

My friend Elena has recently started sketching digital designs and she asked a few designers to help her spread the word about a cute free digi called Beach Girl, that she’s now offering on her blog. I couldn’t say no to her, or the little beach bum cutie, for that matter! Here’s my contribution:

I printed the girl twice on white cardstock and created a sponged background with Distress Inks around one of them. I coloured the other one with Copics, cut out and mounted over the scene which I trimmed to a rectangle shape. Here’s the list of Copics I used:
swimsuit B00/02/04, RV11/14/19, G09
skin E00/02/04/93
hair Y23/26/28

I stamped the sentiment from a Simon Says set in the corner, layered the panel on some Rich Razzleberry cardstock and mounted everything on a card covered with trimmed canvas flowers from Basic Grey Soleil collection. Lastly I covered the swimsuit with Wink Of Stella (can’t really see it on the photos), added a resin flower to the girl’s hair and a sequin star to the flag.

Here’s a list of participants:

You can grab the free digi at Elena’s blog. Enjoy the inspiration!
