Design infused #1

I’m so happy to finally launch one of the new blog features today! The first one out of many fantastic things that I’ve got up my sleeve… if only time allowed me put it all into action soon enough!
The series I’m launching with this post is called Design Inspired, and that’s where I’ll be showing you my latest design non-card inspirations and how I translate them into projects using stamps and ink. Sounds like fun?

The inspiration for today comes from this amazing, Mexican-style wedding invitations that I found originally on Pinterest, which in turn led me to this cool website.

You have to go check all of the designs out, in the source post! I gasped when I saw them, my folksy side is in utter delight :) Aren’t they GOR-JUSS?? I was even more excited when it dawned on me that I could achieve a very similar effect with my beloved Folk Art Medallion stamp set from Waltzingmouse. That’s when I told myself “right, girl… I think it’s a perfect time for your first Design Inspired post!”
Wink.
So… here’s what I made.

I took a solid border piece stamp from Folk Art Medallion for the quickest result, but I could also create the same pattern using smaller bits and by doing so, I’d be able to mix various colours, like on the other stationery items. Here I only added a touch of dark brown, by cutting out the tiny circles for the flower centers and adhering them on top of the stamped design.
I used Say It Loud (also Waltzingmouse) for the sentiment, and experimented with Fancy Flourishes, Scallops & Dots for the dotty lines.
Finally, I selectively inked one of the border stamps from Heirloom Patterns, for the aqua horizontal dividers.

The Envelope was created using Kreate-A-Lope, plus I did the liner with its help. I traced the top half (flap) and the center of the template on a piece of white paper, cut it out and trimmed any excess necessary. Then the tips of the flaps were rounded with the punch and I decorated the insert by stamping a tile design with the Folk Art Medallion set.

Voila! Isn’t it lovely? :)
I hope you liked it and that you’re looking forward to another installment of Design Inspired. Cheers!

Sketchbook Saturday Challenge #99

Hi friends, sorry for the late! I had the card done and photos ready in the morning, but then we scored an impromptu family visit which took us well into the evening. Can you see the number of this challenge? We’re one sketch short of a hundred!! I’ll be frank with you, I don’t actually have any specified plan about what to do about it yet, but I promised you changes and there will certainly be some! They will surely be fabulous too, but more of it later - make sure you “like” my page on Facebook to get the perks as they come! (link on the sidebar)

Chatting aside, let’s roll in with the sketch! It’s a little CAS number, and it was inspired by a card but due to my overlooking, I can’t tell you where the inspiration was found… I saved the card to my computer but forgot to attach the link to it *insert guilty face*

I combined the WPlus9 and Hero Arts stamps, for a ‘modern folk’ style card. I filled in the parts of the lace border with Copic markers and added a complimentary strip of cardstock, for a nice, full look. The flowers on both sides of the sentiment, were popped up on dimensionals.

I used a Memento marker in Bamboo Leaves (same as the ink used for the scrolls), to stamp the word ‘wonderful’, and regular black ink for the rest of the sentiment. Once stamped, I actually went over the green word with the marker, smoothing out the uneven lines. These markers are perfect for a watercolour look but not so much for precise stamping.

A ColourQ challenge, such gorgeous colour palette that I had such a pleasure playing with as well :)

A few things to keep in mind if you decide to use my sketch:

- You’re kindly asked to save the image onto your computer first, and if you make a card based on it, please link back to this post.
- If you upload your card to an online gallery, use the code SSC99.
- Feel free to share the link to your creation via the Inlinkz widget, so that I can come and check it out!
- The colours/elements mean nothing towards the card. All styles, colours and supplies, as well as slight alterations of the sketch are welcome.
- A new sketch and sample is posted every other Saturday night (American EST time ~ or around mid-day Sunday Melbourne time), but you’re welcome to play any time! Just leave a link in the comments section after Inlinkz widget closes.

Craft Dash!

Multitasking tonight… I combined the 10 Minute Craft Dash #20, Fusion #12 (sketch only), and CFC106 (over the edge), on the card below. I made a conscious effort to utilize lots of scraps on it; I’m raiding my scrap box every time I intend to cut into a new paper anyway, but this card is especially thrifty as it’s all made of off-cuts, except from the base :)

Here are the challenges. I tilted the panels from the Fusion challenge slightly, for an added interest.

For the Craft Dash, I started with the roughly assembled lot as it shows below. I barely made it in time, and that’s because of the last-minute decision to add the enamel dots… the placement is quite haphazard, I panicked when I saw the timer and plastered them on without much thought! lol

New goodies at play

Just as I thought that I can’t stand waiting for much longer and was going to harass the postie, my new WPlus9 goodies arrived! Well, I wasn’t really going to, we’re good - love my postie… None the less I was getting quite impatient, and that’s because of the one and only set that everyone’s drooling over - Fresh Cut Florals. I understand the excitement, how can you NOT love these clever designs?? It won me at lilacs and those fun little berries, but really there’s much more to it that meets the eye initially, the possibilities are endless.
I made a lovely layered bouquet using the corresponding dies, and paired it with another cute arrival, the Written On Ribbon set.

I used the sketch from Cardabilities, and I thought since I’m playing with the WPlus9 goodies, I might as well make use of their current Mood Board again :)

Hope you like it!

CASE Study Challenge #146

Hi guys! I’m quite pressed for time today, so here comes an extra brief post! Below is an inspiration for this week’s CASE Study challenge, courtesy of our Muse Lisa Spangler:

…and here’s my take. The flag banner comes from a cheapie die-cut collection that I picked up in a local craft store and which apparently has no name :) I stamped the sentiment from Paper Smooches on it.

Check out the blogs below, for the Design Team girls’ unique takes on the challenge, or visit CASE Study to see all of the fabulosity in one place :)

Runway Inspired Challenge #38

I’ve got a pleasure to join the folks over at the Runway Inspired Challenge today! The inspiration is gorjuss and it comes from the Burberry Prorsum’s 2014 Resort collection:

I love the mix of subtle patterns and colours, perfectly feminine and so right up my alley. I had a blast with this one! I stamped a doily pattern from The Craft’s Meow Simply Delightful set, on the PTI Sweet Blush card base, to channel the lovely blouse. For the skirt, I used a scrap piece of textured cardstock (AnnaBelle Stamps, retired) that I’ve had hanging around forever. Instead of a peach accent, I used saturated browns of the flowers (Kaisercraft Collectables).

The calico behind the panel was a last minute decision, love me some texture!
I hope you’ll join us, there’s a $25 gift card to Ellen Hutson up for grabs, along with all the praise that comes with winning :)
