Make It Monday: Watercolour Splats

Written by: iwona    34 Comments

I (sadly) rarely join Make It Monday challenges on Nichole’s blog but I jumped right in, when I saw what the new one is about - Watercolour Splats. It’s one of my favourite techniques but one that I usually create with Distress Inks. Tonight gave me an opportunity to see if my PTI inks live to the challenge at hand :) Here’s what I did.

I sponged Hawaiian Shores, Aqua Mist & Simply Chartreuse in a cloud rather than covering the whole panel. There was quite a substantial amount of blending, in order to achieve a smooth transition :) I also pulled out Doodlie-Do again (hooray!!) from which I took a flower and some foliage, die cut and watercoloured (also again). I swear they seem to be calling my watercolours’ name whenever I look art them. Ha!
I stamped the sentiment on a scrap piece of DP (Basic Grey), which I tore at one end for an extra ‘bam!’. I secured the strip with some washi tape, which I also tore. A few sequins later, the card was done. Like? No?

Here’s my sketch inspiration, thanks Cardabilities.

See you later, peeps… fun post coming tomorrow along with a GIVEAWAY you don’t want to miss :)

  1. I love your card, but it’s your photography style that I’m loving too. I noticed the change in style a few months ago-really lovely, they look like the photo’s in CARDS Magazine! Please tell me about your lighting and how you came about to the big change. thank you so much, Victoria Lavender

    • Thanks, Victoria! My lighting is either natural (I take photos by a big window in my craft room) or artificial and by this I mean a regular ceiling lamp in that same room. I take lots of photos in the night time, like the one above because that’s when I do most of my crafting. It takes some editing to brighten my photos and make them look decent. Nothing too technical or special here, sorry!

  2. Gorgeous card. Your watercolor skills are amazing. Love the depth in the flower and the splatters in the background. Bright, fun take on the Cardabilities sketch. Thanks for joining us.
