Gallery Idol Round #3

Written by: iwona    22 Comments

Hi there, I’m back with a card for Round #3 of Gallery Idol! It’s been a crazy ride so far and frankly I’ve been in a tired daze lately, thus suffering from a mix of “I really don’t know what the heck I’m doing here”, mini panic attacks and “que sera” attitude. The task given for this round was to use stencils and as much as I truly DO love it, I haven’t had enough mojo around to give it justice.
I’ve been working on the card yesterday and I couldn’t come up with anything I’d be proud of. Sandwiched between two working days, Sunday is a killer these days and that’s the only day I can do GI stuff. Oh well, it was good fun and I won’t cry if that’s where my journey ends 🙂

So, I had this idea that I try to do a stenciled rainbow background on a black card, using embossing paste and Distress Paints. Here’s the result… a bit messy and that’s probably the best I can come up with at all times. I love embossing paste but it doesn’t like me back 😛

I used a Raindrops 6 x 6 stencil by Prima with white embossing paste (Mont Marte). I mixed small amounts of it with Distress Paints: Seedless Preserves, Barn Door, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed & Peeled Paint. I applied each in rows while trying not to mix the colours. Once I finished applying the paste, which took me probably at least 20 minutes, let the paste dry for an additional 15 minutes or so. Once half solidified, I scraped off any excess from the top to bottom and let the colours mix slightly as I was dragging the spatula down the panel.
Here’s the initial result - I covered some major mishaps afterwards with the sentiment panel, and I managed to carefully scrape off some of the unwanted bits as well.

As you can see I left an ‘unstenciled’ patch and I did this by stamping a mask of a bunny holding the umbrella on a scrap piece of paper (Mama Elephant Up and Away) and securing it over the stencil. This way I knew where not to apply the paste.
I then white embossed the same image on black cardstock, and also once on scrap cardstocks of every corresponding colour. I paper pieced the umbrella and bunny’s belly and popped the critter up on the panel using foam tape.
I finished the card with the white embossed sentiment panel (the same stamp set) and a few yellow enamel dots around it.

I hope there is someone out there who likes what I did here, enough to cast a vote 🙂 If you’re one of them, I’d be truly grateful if you found a minute to head to the
Gallery Idol 2014 contest page.
After a quick registration you can do so there. Of course every vote would delight me, but no hard feelings if you find another entry worth it more - there’s so much talent this year I’m almost too scared to look once the entries are posted!
