Sketchbook Saturday Challenge #91, plus extras!

Hello and happy weekend! In full swing here, mid-Sunday here we go… bummer, I wish there was one more day off for me & hubby to enjoy each other while leisurely getting about our stuff! It’s still a really, really nice arvo, fleeting as these moments are :)
LOTS to share today, so I better get into it!

First up, a new sketch! It came to me in the middle of the night, out of the blue… I seem to dream a lot of my crafty creations lately, not sure why it suddenly started as I never experienced such phenomenon. It’s quite amusing… if not worrying…. haha!

I allowed myself for creative freedom with this one (the card isn’t anything like the one I dreamt of), mostly because I wanted to give the awesome Glitz Design Cashmere Dame papers, as much exposure as they needed. Cutting into these feels divine!
I did the trick with the layers, which I learnt from fellow bloggers - swiping a dark-coloured inkpad directly against the edges of the papers, to give them definition. Try that if you’re curious and never did so - you wouldn’t believe how much life this simple trick adds to the layering!

I had so much fun with this card, it should be forbidden… I spiced up the papers with October Afternoon and Kaisercraft rub-ons (I especially like the teeny tiny print on the label); die cutting (negative on the heart, plus I added the cut out shape right next to it… can you see??); XOXO cut with my Silhouette, blinged up and mixed with the bits of sentiments taken from a Technique Tuesday stamp set (Simply You), Cosmo Cricket sentiment sticker and chippie… plus some washi tape, button, ribbon & twine :)

I have one more card, actually. Sneaking it in with mixed feelings as I intend to keep my sketch posts free from other stuff, but I made it this morning (guess what? …after I dreamt it last night!!) and I love it so much I’m not willing to wait… lol

The camera is another Silhouette cut. Don’t ask me how long it took me to adhere all these little pieces on top of each other… 😛
I wanted to achieve an impression of butterflies flying out of the camera lens, and I used Studio Calico veneer for that purpose. The sentiment comes again, from the Cosmo Cricket sticker sheet. Love it. It’s one of their Tiny Texts and has some awesome ATC-style phrases that I dig so much.

It’s my submission for the Camera Craze Challenge in the Moxie Fab World. I wasn’t happy with my initial one, but felt challenged to give this subject another try. Again, not something I’d usually tackle on my cards, but boy do I love the fact that I did!

Lastly, I thought I’d include a couple of shots done this week, my FB friends might be familiar with them already :)

Love these photos of Chuplet, doing a little baking with mummy & grandma the other day…

This hangs in our kitchen / dining area. As much as I find these often too cheesy, this saying resonates with me so much.

A few things to keep in mind if you decide to use my sketch:

- You’re kindly asked to save the image onto your computer first, and if you make a card based on it, please link back to this post.
- If you upload your card to an online gallery, use the code SSC91.
- Feel free to share the link to your creation via the Inlinkz widget, so that I can come and check it out!
- The colours/elements mean nothing towards the card. All styles, colours and supplies, as well as slight alterations of the sketch are welcome.
- A new sketch and sample is posted every other Saturday night (American EST time ~ or around mid-day Sunday Melbourne time), but you’re welcome to play any time! Just leave a link in the comments section after Inlinkz widget closes.

A card (plus some photos)

I so needed to evacuate to my craft room a ‘just because’ sitting today. I’m having the urge to play with a couple of the new goodies that I *might have* acquired recently… there’s nothing like happy mail to rejuvenate your mojo!
I pulled out some new stamps, the Birch Branch Print from Memory Box & Simply You by Technique Tuesday, and mixed them with a couple of things at hand. I also re-discovered a couple of 6×6 paper pads from Glitz Design the other day, to my utter enjoyment, because I totally stuffed them where they were doomed to be forgotten for months…
So… all of them and more, made it to another *scrappy* card of mine, that I happen to enjoy making again :)

I cut a window in the patterned paper and covered the base of the card, where the opening is, with burlap. I like the look of a wee piece of lace, peeking out from behind the window - the last minute touch that I added.
Surprising myself with these little things, that might have never crossed my mind at first, for me is an essence of enjoyment I take from creating. If my cards turned out exactly how I envisioned them at the beginning, they would be much less fun to make, I’m not even sure if they were better at all. Instead I like to settle for a bit of chaos and see where it takes me :)

Here’s a delightful inspiration photo (from The Ribbon Reel challenge #45) that lies behind this card:

I also wanted to share a couple of photos that hubby & I took yesterday, on our family trip to Melbourne ZOO. It’s a world-class facility that’s always a joy to go visit. I love love LOVE their butterfly house! If only it wasn’t steaming hot inside…

Meerkats are always a staple when we’re there. ADORE these little creatures :)

Then there’s the two Palamountain girls. One BIG and one small. Yes, my pregnancy shows as much on my belly as it does around it… LOL
I keep telling myself that as far as I’m a very happy momma (which is entirely true), I can handle being oversized for a few months more… Then there will be other things to worry about, ack! Or one utterly cute and much awaited reason, for that matter

See you later, crafty peeps!

I just discovered…

…the magic of Photoshop.

Let’s not get fooled, I will always love my Corel Photo Paint, but PS actions are just something else…

Suddenly I’m all too eager to go out and take tons of photos. Hmmm.
Like these.

What do you think? :)

It’s all about birds!

Good afternoon ladies, ready for some new stuff?
I recently discovered that I might need some extra Christmas cards to give to my friends, so I’m still (happily) on the holiday roll :)
I was thinking what colours to use on them, and decided on the combo from The Play Date Cafe Challenge PDCC09 - blue, gold and cream. I must say that I was firstly a bit wary of them put together, but as usually, I found out that they can coordinate quite nicely…

For the first card I used some stenciling ( I really liked it the first time I tried this fun technique, and decided to give it another go). Therefore, the project is also my second entry for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge(FTTC46).
The stenciled design is on the left - I used Fiskars embossing folder, and the bird is one of my favs from Inkadinkado, stamped with Vivid! Yellow ink.

And here’s the card with inverted colours - the ink used here is Color Box Blue Iris.

I used the same sketch for both projects - OCC Weekly Sketch Challenge - SASSC45 (I turned it on the side)
The cards also enter PPA21 - Theme Challenge at Paper Pals Arts. The theme is Winter Wonderland, but the girls accept holiday themed projects as well.

I also want to show you the photos that I took the other day, of the corellas feeding on the pine tree in our backyard. Aren’t they super cute?

Beautiful birds they are indeed, their beaks can be a real threat though - at least to the poor tree, that looked pretty wasted afterward! On top of this, we’re having pretty hot days already - yesterday the thermometre showed 39 degrees Celsius! Oh what fun… *grunts*
So much for the holiday mood here in Australia lol!

That’s it from me for now, thanks for visiting!
