CASE Study Challenge #192

Hello! It’s CASE Study time and a new challenge is up, inspired by the awesome Wida. Figures this wonder woman can awaken the rustiest of mojos because GASP! I scrapbooked. For the first time in months. I usually don’t feel much need for it, I adore the idea but apart from the lack of natural talent in scrapbooking, I struggle making my pages personal, “mine”. Or perhaps my time hasn’t arrived yet, hmmm.
But! Today’s work I’m happy with. Yay!

It’s the freestyle arrangement of the elements, stacked vertically on the card, that made me think of a big time layout rather than a card. I also carried the vellum elements through, rather extensively as you can see…
I cut Simon Says Stamp Full Card Hexagons in vellum, cut the frame off and placed the grid behind the photo. Then I gathered the hexagon pieces and fitted them around the grid, letting them spill in both directions too, as if they were bursting out of the frames.

The phrase comes from the MAMBI (Me & My Big Ideas) pocket page; I found it so fitting, especially lately as I’ve been dealing with surprisingly extensive tiredness and low mood. Those two are a handful for sure but it takes one look at their faces and no trouble matters any more.
I cut the page by hand and stacked the strips in a random manner, drawing a line under each strip with a felt pen. The few embellishments that I used are Studio Calico Tiny Stars (which I’m sure you noticed by now that I’m a bit obsessed with), and Teresa Collins and Kaisercraft flag banners (ready-made die cuts). I also added splatters with Tattered Angels spray mist.

FB told me last night, just as I was finishing this piece, that there’s a Scrapbooking Rocks Challenge on at the Moxie Fab World blog as of current, so I thought it was an amusing coincidence. Needless to say, I’ll be linking up there :)

Tootsies

I did a scrapbook & I like it! YAY! (I wonder how many times I’ll have to repeat this mantra over a new layout, to start believing that I actually can do these things… snort!). This one features my youngest, Julka’s tiny toes which I’m completely and unconditionally in love with. I’m seriously considering having a professional photo taken of just these cuties - anyone who held a baby must know what I’m taking about :)
I decided to do a bit of doodling, I love the look of it but I’m always cautious of releasing my inner artist, in fear that I’ll spoil the effect with a single careless move. I’ve been looking at a lot of art journaling again lately and I’d be delighted to start a journal myself. Maybe, just maybe… *wink* Anyway, check it out!

The base paper comes from Glitz Design‘s Color Me Happy collection. I cut it back to an A4 size (metric) and used the subtle grey pattern for the ‘canvas’ of my design, while cutting two narrow strips from remaining paper and sticking them at the top and bottom, the opposite side up.
The embellishments come at large from an Echo Park (Beautiful Life) and October Afternoon (Sidewalks) sticker sheets. I did the doodling with a regular black pen (Uniball) and added the colour with Elmer’s Painters in Sherbet Swirl (these are acrylic paint markers).

My smiles begin with you

Hi there! A really quick post… I’m sick and feeling so bleh (some sort of a bacterial infection) so no telling stories tonight. However, this page has been waiting for posting forever and I can’t sleep, so I thought I’d share.

My two munchkins :) I used Instagram photos and neither my phone camera is brilliant, nor is my printer. Hence the quality… :/

Smitten

So… I made this little scrapbook last night, of Julka. It looks better in real life, once again my skills failed me when trying to take a photo of a layout. Getting tired of this ongoing issue… anyway. Here it is :)

Once again, because of the nature of my scrapbooking (lots of scraps and small pieces from different manufacturers), I figured that putting together a list of products would take me more time than what it’s worth. If you’ve got any questions, feel free to shoot me an email! Cheers :)

Because I miss them. A scrapbook.

Cheers, friends! Uhm… I’m going to get personal in this post. I barely ever do it but this is one of the times that sharing means healing (if only just a little bit), I hope you don’t mind.
It’s not much of a secret how much I miss my parents, who sadly flew back to Poland a couple of days ago, after spending an extensive time with us. It was all too easy to get used to having them around, and especially hard to re-adjust to the emptiness they left behind, the lack of cheerful buzz that they created along with Zuzia. I didn’t expect it to hit me this much, but it’s also the unfortunate timing that weighed extra heavily on everyone. I’m now nearly in my 40th week of pregnancy and expect the little bubs any day now. I’ve been on an emotional roller-coaster, partly because of the raging hormones; the excitement of the upcoming big day and at the same time the painful awareness that two of the most important people will miss it by just a couple of days.
Through the last five months we watched Zuzia get to know, and fall in love with them. Turn from the stubborn and a untrusting girl with no skills in communicating in their native language, to being totally devoted to her grandparents (and the other way around) and speaking with them freely in Polish. It’s a-ma-zing what half a year can do…
The bond they created is unspeakable. She cried when we said our good-byes at the airport. I can see she can’t quite come to terms with the lack of them around yet, either. And we can’t give her answers as to when she’ll see them again - travelling across the globe is a pricey business… Thanks goodness for Skype.

I sat down this morning, browsing through 100’s of photos that we took, and I stumbled across one that captured my heart. This layout happened shortly afterwards.

I’m sorry for the lack of supply list; as it usually happens with my layouts, I used a gazillion of bits & pieces from different collections & manufacturers and it would take me well into the night, trying to list all of them. Feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions!

See you tomorrow, for a JG’s Nook card, and then the next installment of Sketchbook Saturday. Enjoy the weekend ahead and thank you for joining me today, for this special post <3

Jay Gee’s Nook - I scream for…

I’m sharing a scrapbook page on the Jay Gee’s Nook blog today! I’m so happy to have dabbled in scrapbooking again, after a rather long-ish break. This time even the photos didn’t turn out bad, so I may call it a small success and an encouragement to try again soon!
I captured this photos of Chuplet a couple of weeks ago, on a casual road trip we had. It was one of these fine days when events unfold before you in the way you’d have never expected. We went to see an old homestead, historical site in the neighbourhood and on the way back we decided to take a scenic route and look for some grazing kangaroos. Instead, we stumbled upon a local fair with live music and free food, which Zuzia took up immediately :) She’s such a ice-cream fan!

I stamped the badge and the speech bubble from the Say What stamp set (Mama Elephant), cut out the latter and popped up on the foam tape. I had a few die-cut pieces left from the last time I used the Rainbow Die-Namics, so I used them as an additional decoration. I’m quite into Studio Calico wood veneer these days, and I used their Chevron Snippets and Stars here.
The bubble wrap stamp is a Unity Stamps wonder called Painted Punchinella, I stamped it directly onto MME patterned paper base (Miss Caroline) with Distress Ink.
The scraps of papers and die-cut embellishments, come mostly from Basic Grey (pb&j) and Glitz Design. The splatters were done with an October Afternoon Sprinkler (Sidewalks).

Pop in to the Jay Gee’s Nook blog for more from the Design Team :)
