CASE Study Challenge #201

Hi there, just a quick post today because I’m running late. A new challenge at CASE Study has just launched, with the inspiration from Shari Carroll below. It’s a relatively old piece from her blog but I dig it so much!

I don’t know how I went so much astray with my card… I got immersed in the process, having too much fun. Eeek! None the less it turned out to be one of my favourite pieces to date but I can honestly tell you that the correlation between some of the elements I only acknowledged after I photographed the card. Gasp! Does this sentiment piece really look like a sun?? LOL You get the picture 😉

CASE Study Challenge #200

Did you see the number in the title?? We’re having a 200th challenge at CASE Study! I never thought we’d get this far and yet here we are… I’m very humbled today, what magnificent four years it have been! Just you wait until you see what we’ve got in store for our impending Anniversary!!
More on it soon, but for now let’s play another inspiration-laden challenge, featuring Shari Carroll as our Muse! Here’s what we’re serving this week:

I love this timeless layout. I would love to know who came up with it first and gave life to this ongoing trend. Do you know? Is it even possible to track such things??

I took white cardstock with a subtle woodgrain texture for my base, and cut the panel from Cosmo Cricket Simple Surfaces patterned paper. I love the pad it comes in - there’s glittery stuff, vellum and plain paper with a variety of designs to choose from, all fresh and trendy. I’ll be using it a lot!
I layered some die cuts on, cut with the Penny Black‘s brand new A Pocket Full dies and stamped with the coordinating Let’s Chat stamp set. For the speech bubble, I had to alter the stamping a bit since the ‘tails’ face the opposite ways in the die cut and stamp. I simply added the tail with a black pen once stamped.

I also added some ink splats, sequins (as I would, duh!), washi tape tucked underneath the panel and I spelled the work “kid” with some ancient old Thickers :)

CASE Study Challenge #199

It’s time for a second week with Shari Carroll, wahoo! I love the card we’re serving for this challenge, clever and striking. Loved from the moment I first saw it two years ago. With the craze for die-cutting that the paper crafting world is experiencing right now, I think this one’s going to be popular.

I didn’t try too hard to be original. I knew I wanted to try the same technique but with a different die. What I didn’t see coming at first, is that I’m going to grab the paper from the same (old!) paper pad - Bo Bunny‘s Country Garden. The die is Full Card Hexagons from Simon Says and I cut it in white cardstock, and backed the assembled piece with a layer of vellum, as opposed to cardstock in the inspiration card. It muted further down the subtle yellow of PTI‘s Lemon Tart CS.

I added a few perfectly colouristically coordinated accents - a couple of butterflies and sentiment die cut from Kaisercraft‘s Curiosity collectables, and Coral Sparklets (also from Kaisercraft)

I’m sharing this card with Virginia’s View Challenge #5 - Die Cutting.

CASE Study Challenge #198

We launch another month of inspiration at CASE Study! It means a new Muse (BIG welcome to Shari Carroll!!) and not one, but two Guest Designers as well (WooT WooT Tenia and Amy!!). We’re bursting out with excitement. July’s gonna rock our socks off :)

So this little number is what we’re starting with. A fresh design, right on trend and sporting an equally awesome colour combination. Here’s my take…

I started with a Kelly Purkey Triangles die cut which I misted with a Silver Glimmer Mist. Then I cut some leaves in gold foil paper using WPlus9 Spring Blooms dies, and layered them underneath a Studio Calico die cut which I stamped the ‘hello’ word (from WPlus9 Hand Lettered Hello set) in. I finished with a few scraps of Glitz Design washi tape and Pretty Pink Posh Metallic Gold Stars sequins.

CASE Study Challenge #197

We’re nearing the end of June challenges at CASE Study and it means that this week’s we’re also saying good bye and thank-you to Pamela for being a fantastic Muse. If you didn’t yet have a chance to draw inspiration from one of her cards and share it with us, now is your last chance! Here’s Pamela’s card that we’re CASE’ing this week:

I will be lucky if you manage to see my thinking process there. Oi!
It started with the idea of using my new Hero Arts stamps: Constellation Background for the soft backdrop and You Are a Star for a focal point. Then, following my craze for the also newly acquired Peerless Water Colors, I thought I’d give the background a watercolour wash in the shades of the night sky. I thought to myself, “you’ll have the star pop out nicely against it, if you gold emboss it”.
Well, not really. *rolls eyes*
I mean, the effect is cool none the less but the idea of a strong focal point against the soft background like in the Muse’s card, has vanished in the process. So there :)

I’m completely and utterly in love with the Peerless brand of watercolours. I have the Complete Edition Book but I will be getting one, if not both of the remaining sets. They’re all out of stock now at Simon Says Stamp, as they’ve been almost permanently for weeks (undoubtedly because of Jennifer McGuire’s enabling) but boy am I watching them closely! HA!
You can see the whole collection here.

I added a few Pretty Pink Posh Metallic Gold Stars sequins (SSS don’t seem to have stock at the moment but they do have silver ones) and bunched up some thread behind the gold embossed sentiment. As opposed to the photo styling with paint brushes, I used my trusty Aquash water brush to apply the colour to the background, for convenience of use.

CASE Study Challenge #196 and a bonus card!

Hi folks, ready for a new CASE Study challenge? I love a good scene made up with inks and stamps, bonus brownie points for those with a strong cute factor :) Pamela Ho‘s inspiration card ticks all the boxes!

I wanted a scene too, and a cute character or two. I opted for the Honey Bunny stamp set from Mama Elephant. I seriously squeal inside, every time I pick one of their character sets. I mean, come on… who else does them quite as ME?? Happy sigh.

After I sponged the sky with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and adding the ‘hill’ which I sponged added some darker green to as well, I sat my Copic coloured bunnehs on top of it and stamped a few stars around. (Mama Elephant Believe In Magic - a very handy set every time I need a tiny star).

See the balloon? I drew it with a pencil. I wanted a vertical accent strong enough to connect the bunnies and the sentiment together, but not too obtrusive either. I think it looks terrific there :)

In other news: You might have noticed a lack of StampNation related posts lately, and that’s because I needed to step down from the Design Team and discontinue my Technically Speaking tutorials for the time being, due to time restrictions. However, I by no means stopped loving and frequenting the forum, it truly is a fantastic place to hang out and whenever time allows I’ll be still taking part in challenges or events. Like yesterday, for this matter! A new challenge has launched and it’s sponsored by Altenew. YAY for a big opportunity to win some of their goodies!!

Make sure you read about the event HERE on the Altenew blog, you will see there sneak peeks of DT’s samples and Catherine’s exclusive video promoting Altenew product.
I also made a card using their Sochcahtoa stamp set. I’m trying to brave the triangle trend! Some of the shapes were filled with a yellow Copic marker. I used some scraps and a few enamel dots as well. Very thrifty card. I’m sharing one more project on StampNation but you’ll have to pop in there to see it :)
